Family hikes
Take a family hike that fits everyone
Choose a short, well marked trail and agree on a turn around point before starting.
Before you go
- Check the official park or trail page for closures, weather, hours, parking and restroom access.
- Pick distance and elevation for the youngest or least mobile person; consider stroller or wheelchair access when needed.
- Pack water, snacks, sun protection, layers, a small first aid kit and a charged phone.
- Give children a nature bingo list: find a bird call, a smooth rock, three leaf shapes and a shady rest spot.
- Stay on the trail, leave wildlife alone and carry out what you bring.
A plan to try
Try a 30 minute nature walk, a riverside loop, a paved accessible path or a sunset neighborhood walk. Stop for a picnic or sketch what you saw.
